Say No to Black Friday: Embrace Reuse & Repair

Say No to Black Friday: Embrace Reuse & Repair

On November 29, skip the Black Friday frenzy and embrace Reuse & Repair instead—a day to rethink the way we shop, focusing on reusing, repairing, and buying secondhand. Days like these offer opportunities  to support local reuse & repair activities and invest in pre-loved items rather than buying new.

The impact of our shopping choices is huge: across the UK, hundreds of thousands of tonnes of usable items are discarded each year, with nearly a third of people tossing furniture and appliances that could be reused. By choosing pre-loved goods, households could save billions and prevent massive CO₂ emissions, protecting both the planet and our pockets.

This year, NIRN invites you to “rethink, reuse, repair” and support our amazing network of reuse & repair organisations making a difference every day. Whether it’s through donating items, visiting your local reuse charity, or spreading the word on social media, let’s turn Black Friday around into a celebration of sustainability.
