Foyle Food Bank have recently appointed Karen Mullan as their Strategic Development Officer and are keen to explore a future ‘beyond the need for food banks’. With a large central warehouse situated in Derry, Karen is keen to utilise this space to include partnership working with NIRN members and sustainable models of working such as lending libraries.
A recent initiative includes reuse items such as cloth nappies and wipes from Zero Waste North West to include in Foyle Baby Bank bags. Community growing and batch cooking are also on the agenda to reduce waste whilst empowering local communities to become more resilient to changing economic situations
NIRN are delighted to be working with FFB and look forward to the future vision that includes more reuse and repair for local communities.
