The shed is equipped with two workshops, storage and a garden, all exclusively for the “Shedders.” The workshops are well-equipped with commercial-grade tools like table saws, chop saws, milling machines, and planers. These tools enable the creation of intricate flower boxes, birdhouses, benches, bowls, and walking sticks.
The “Shedders” are particularly known for their skill in repairing wooden furniture, especially benches. Each year, they refurbish 30 to 40 pieces, striving to use recycled timber. They collaborate with local businesses to repurpose materials. One notable project involved using cedar cladding retrieved from a skip to build a traditional Irish currach.
This year marks their 10th anniversary. To celebrate this milestone, plans are well underway for various events. Eamonn O’Connor, one of the founders and the current chairman of the Irish Men’s Sheds Association, is justifiably proud of their success. He attributes it to “a dedicated team willing to share responsibilities.” The Shed is not only thriving but is also continually assisting other communities in setting up their own sheds, embodying a spirit of openness and support.
