Artitude in July 2025

Artitude in July 2025

Another busy month for the Artitude project

Project Officer Julie continues to work on developing toolkits and resources from phase 1 of the project.  This month Julie discussed the creation of the Climate Wheel with a former staff member of Limavady Men’s Shed - the builders of the wheel.  The climate wheel is a large circular rickety wheel made from wood and painted with 12 climate facts using sustainable earth pigment paints.  Valuable insights were gained on how the wheel was created, the materials used and the people involved.  The men’s shed used reclaimed wood for the wheel and base, designed and built by master craftsman Roy, a lon

g time member of the group.  The men’s shed had a tradition of making things, such as garden furniture, planters and raised beds etc, but this was an entirely new challenge for them, one which proved to be immensely satisfying to complete.

The climate wheel is now housed in The Playhouse in Derry along with being used at various repair cafes and events throughout the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, where the public can have a spin and make their own climate pledge.

The Artitude team gathered in mid July to develop a shared marketing strategy, developing a brand and identity for the Artitude project, hoping to roll this out soon.

Project Officer Julie has also been busy starting work on the first in a series of Artitude podcasts.  This first series will focus on what has been created during the first phase of the project and looking forward to the next phase with artists embedded in communities. Julie has been in conversation with some of the key stakeholders of Artitude, including participants and facilitators to learn more of their stories.  We expect the podcast series to be ready to stream in the Autumn.
