Circular Communities Pilot Focus Groups

Over the last few weeks, we hosted four focus groups with NIRN members, all experts in their field. The focus groups used design-led thinking so we could collaboratively learn more about their reuse and repair activities and, in turn, how to translate this work into everyday language for communities not currently embracing circular opportunities. NIRN members are delivering reuse and repair activity in their own communities and fully understand the practical challenges, opportunities, and support needed to make it work on the ground.

The sessions looked at ways to effectively engage and involve local communities in circular activities, providing the tools to introduce the circular economy directly into the hands of local people. We are building a step-by-step framework that will give every community the confidence to launch its own initiatives.

This peer-led approach will ensure the pilot is rooted in real experience rather than theory. By refining our communication tools and supporting one another, we are ensuring that the circular movement in Northern Ireland is not just an environmental necessity but a community-driven initiative that is both practical and accessible, and certainly built to last.

We want to thank all the members involved in the focus groups for their valuable insights. We are really excited about taking the programme further.
