The Heart of the Circular Transition
The “Sustainable Conversations” panel highlighted how social enterprise and environmental stewardship go hand-in-hand. Two NIRN members, in particular, showcased how collaborative approaches are essential for a Just Transition:
Gail Redmond (Via Wings): Gail shared the “heartwarming yet eye-opening” reality of the everyday struggles facing our local community. Via Wings isn’t just about repurposing; it’s about dignity. By diverting resources and providing essentials, they alleviate families’ immediate hardships, helping them get back on their feet through a supportive, circular model.
Jenny Williams (Habitat for Humanity Ireland): Representing the power of reuse on a massive scale, Jenny joined industry leaders to discuss how Habitat for Humanity integrates sustainable practices with social impact. Their work ensures that “waste” is transformed into opportunity, providing affordable home improvement resources while keeping valuable materials out of landfills. Providing training and employment for all abilities.
Collaboration as the Catalyst
The event celebrated International Women’s Day by focusing on the power of collective action. Alongside peers like FareShare, Hare’s Corner Cooperative, and DAERA, our members demonstrated that a Net Zero future must be inclusive.
