New Member Life Change Changes Lives

A remarkable social enterprise and charity that combines environmental sustainability with mental health recovery. Through their reuse and repair shop, the LCCL team rescues donated furniture, clothing, and household goods, restoring and repurposing them to prevent landfill waste and promote a circular economy.

Based in Downpatrick they provide a safe, welcoming space for people facing mental health challenges, addiction, and social isolation. The idea came from an upcycling project in New York. Founders Manus and Ailish Teague noticed that as young people painted furniture, they naturally opened up about their struggles. The creative process became a way to express emotions and build connections.

Inspired by this, they created LCCL to offer the same kind of supportive, therapeutic environment to those in need. LCCL starts with rejuvenating furniture donated to the project which was otherwise destined for landfill with the philosophy that whilst you are upscaling the furniture and renewing it and giving it a new life you give the piece purpose and you also rebuild your own self in the process. Essentially taking nothing and making something out of it can effect the same change in you. By intertwining environmental sustainability with mental health recovery, LCCL creates a unique space where individuals can heal, grow, and connect, reinforcing the powerful message that change is possible, both for our planet and ourselves.
