Activity: Monday Mendathon

Kick of Belfast Repair Week with a Monday Mendathon! Belfast City Council, in collaboration with NIRN and Sue Bamford from Tools for Solidarity, invites you to bring along an item to repair or simply join us to discover mending techniques that will help keep your cherished textiles in fashion for longer. Say no to fast fashion and embrace a slower, more sustainable way of dressing

Where: 2 Royal Avenue, Belfast City Centre, BT1 1DA

When :  Monday 3 March, 12 – 6pm

Cost: Free entry, no experience required, all welcome

 

 

Activity: Fixing the Future at Ulster University (Staff and Students Only)

Join us for Fixing the Future, a hands-on day of repair, skill sharing, led by Sue Bamford, Tools for Solidarity. Whether you are a beginner or have repair skills to share, this is your chance to learn, connect and make a difference!

What’s On?

  • Repair & Learn – Discover how to fix and mend your clothes.
  • Swap Shop – Bring along items to swap and refresh your wardrobe sustainably.
  • Call for Staff Donations – Have good clothing that needs mending? Bring it along!
  • Talk by Sue Banford (1:30 PM) – Explore the importance of repair in today’s society.
  • Fashion & Sustainability Video Screenings – Learn about the impact of overproduction and how you can extend the life of your clothes.
  • Big Linen Tapestry Project – Continue work on this collaborative piece started with KNIB as part of the Fashion Forever campaign – while picking up sewing & embroidery skills – and having the craic!

Activity: Repair Workshops and Learning to Sew

Join Freedom Bikes for a free bike check up and bring your clothing and textiles that need repaired to volunteers from Carryduff Repair Café.

You can also learn to sew on a button or try your hand on a sewing machine with Make it Fab (11am – 1pm)

Availability: Open to Queen’s University Students, Staff and wider community

 

Activity: Resist and Repair (Private Event – Belfast City Council Staff)

Resist and Repair is a lunchtime workshop designed to explore the art of visible mending, a creative and practical way to extend the life of clothing. By learning simple stitches and repair techniques, participants can transform worn or damaged garments into unique, personalised pieces. This hands-on session not only reduces textile waste but enables a sense of empowerment, encouraging individuals to reclaim their clothes rather than discard them. Through the act of mending, staff can embrace sustainability, self sufficiency and mindful consumption – one stitch at a time!

Activity: Revive and Rewear

Vincent’s Belfast, supported by Sue Bamford from Tools for Solidarity, is embracing Repair Week by celebrating sustainability and the power of repair. Customers are encouraged to rethink pre-loved items, while the store sets aside donations in need of a little TLC to showcase the impact of visible mending. From torn garments to missing buttons, this initiative highlights simple ways to extend the life of our belongings and reduce waste.

Activity: Wear and Repair

Join the Planetary Health Report Card (PHRC) Committee and Sew Ready with a 3 part sewing series teaching the basics of repairing your clothes, discussing conscious fashion and learning new and purposeful ways to approach fashion.

Where: QUB, 1 Elmwood Avenue, Belfast, BT9 6AZ

When: 5, 12 and 19 of March, 6 – 7pm

Availability: Queen’s University Students and Staff only

 

Activity: Mending Pile Meet Up

Do you have clothes that need a fix – but struggle to find the time, motivation or know how to mend them? Join our social Mending Pile Meet Up to transform a chore into a joy with good company, a hot cuppa, some tasty treats and our  if you need a little help or advice.

Suitable for all levels of experience.

Activity: Bike Maintenance Session

Get your bike ready for Spring! Bring your bike to Markets Community Centre for a safety check, or just come along to learn some basic maintenance skills from East Belfast Mission’s experienced bike mechanic, Michael Lowry. Free McConvey Cycles water bottle available for attendees*!

Activity:  The Art of Repair & Student Swap Shop

Ever wanted to learn to thread a needle, sew on a button or try out a sewing machine? Abigail from Make it Fab will be happy to share her knowledge and skills around the art of sewing and mending.

Activity: Chair Repair Workshop

Sign up to our Repair Week Chair Repair Workshop and let our experienced tutors take you through your paces with different methods of fixing furniture breaks. Gain the confidence to tackle those jobs at home, save money on potentially expensive repairs and breathe new life into furniture you may once have thought was destined for the dump! Get your fix-it fix at BTL!

Activity: Repair Café

REpair Cafe Belfast is hosting a repair café – a community event where volunteers help you repair your broken items for free! Whether it’s a faulty toaster, a wobbly chair, a torn jacket,  our skilled fixers are here to help.
